Landgasthof Drausendorf (Ještěd), 2022
Destruction outside the window
The mine is to be extended up to the state border, without a single protective measure such as an embankment. The landscape on the Polish side of the border between Uhelná and Turów is being transformed into a mining area. All the natural barriers between the village and the mine, the forests, and woods, are disappearing. Mining machines will literally arrive under the windows of the inhabitants of Uhelná. Even the noise of mining machines and conveyors, the level of which has been officially measured in recent years, will have no obstacles on their way to Uhelná. Some of the local residents have refused to await their fate with folded arms and have decided to act.
(The protective embankment will be implemented at the end of 2023. Unfortunately, its height is blocking the view at only a small part of the mining area – its full effect will not be felt until many years later, when the pioneer trees, which are going to be planted on it, reach maturity.)
