Hope dies last
Many people have long pointed out that it makes no sense to demolish a historically and architecturally interesting village located on the very edge of a mining pit. By destroying it, PGE will not gain another decade of mining, but only a few years. Once the mine is flooded, Opolno-Zdrój could be the natural center of a future recreational area.
On the gate of a half-timbered house in Uhelná hangs a hundred-year-old tourist signpost, which informs passers-by of the distance to Bad Opplesdorf. The three kilometers between Václavice and Uhelná and Opolno-Zdrój can be walked by a pilgrim on a dirt road in about half an hour. That is the current distance from the Polish despair.
