A cardboard minister
Local politicians were also invited: the Mayor of Hrádek nad Nisou, the Governor of the Liberec Region and others. They, unlike Minister Brabec, came in person. Greenpeace activists brought at least a cardboard cut-out of the politician so that he would not be absent in such an important matter.
The legal line of litigation began to play a dominant role. After a series of ignored complaints to both PGE and the Polish government, an international lawsuit was filed against Poland at the EU Court of Justice. For the first time in history, an international lawsuit was filed to protect the environment and natural resources. At least that is how it seemed for a long time, until it became clear in February 2022 that the goal of the Czech Republic’s efforts was not to protect the environment, but to obtain financial compensation.
