Opolno-Zdrój, 2022
After the war, everything changes
After the Second World War, Bad Oppelsdorf became part of Poland and changed its name to Opolno-Zdrój. This was followed by the expulsion of more than 1,300 inhabitants to defeated Germany. The spa, which before the war had been the center of the whole area, suddenly found itself on the remote edge of post-war Poland, in the inaccessible Turozsów salient between East Germany and Czechoslovakia. Although the spa facilities were reconstructed in 1950 and operations were briefly restored, the spa industry was in decline. Nevertheless, the population has gradually recovered to its original level, with 1,192 inhabitants in 2011.
Unfortunately, more than a fifth of the population has left over the last ten years and this trend is likely to continue. Today, Opolno-Zdrój is already home to the fourth generation of new residents, but every year a part of them moves away. For the end of 2023, the statistics indicate a population of 825 people.
