“I can live without coal”

According to the current plans, mining at the Turów brown coal mine should continue until 2044. The fate of the historically important village of Opolno-Zdrój may well be decided. However, many are already looking for a way out of their dependence on coal. An example? About twenty kilometers from the surface mine, in Jindřichovice pod Smrkem, Marek Bednář built an energy-independent house with a green roof and solar panels. And he is far from alone. Hundreds of likeminded people are striving for at least a partial energy independence. If all the solar power stations that were applied for in the Czech Republic can be connected to the grid, they will cover up to 25% of the Czech Republic’s energy needs.
