The Golden Age: “Spa” in the name of the village
In addition to drinking, the healing waters of Oppelsdorf were used for medical treatments and typical spa baths. Gottlieb Appelt’s establishment prospered and so more baths were built. Between 1882 and 1909, new and increasingly modern bath houses were opened, among them the Annen Bad in 1905 (Photo on pg. 139). The development of the spa industry was so dominant that the logical step followed: the renaming of Opplesdorf to ‘Bad Oppelsdorf’ – the Oppelsdorf Spa. At that moment the village reached its historical peak. In addition to the spa, there were numerous restaurants, shops and 26 guesthouses. One of them was called “Heilquelle” (Photo on pg. 190).
