“We are on the front line”
Uhelná has been informed that a protest by environmental organizations against the expansion of the mine is being planned at the tripoint near Hrádek nad Nisou. Neither of the families in the half-timbered houses in Uhelná had any experience with activism, but they decided to act. The creative members of both families met at the Gabrys’ house and a poster was made saying “Uhelná: we are on the front line”. The journalists were looking around cautiously, occasionally checking their mobile phones to see where Uhelná actually was. Then came the first interviews, photos, and media coverage of the whole case. At the same protest a year later, which was much more heated due to the presence of many miners, Milan Starec, holding a microphone, was speaking to the audience himself.
